Isla and the Happily Ever After Playlist!

The day we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! Happy #ReadISLA day, book nerds! Can you believe the long wait most of us had to endure to finally read the conclusion to the Anna and the French Kiss companion series? But trust me, it is so incredibly worth it. Now that Isla and the Happily Ever After is finally out and about- go grab a copy as soon as possible and #ReadISLA! ;)

I actually got to read Isla early (still so thankful to the book goddesses for this!) and I absolutely loved it. I swooned, laughed, and fell hard for Isla and the Happily Ever After! So in celebration of Isla’s release day, I’ll be sharing my personal playlist for the book!

isla and the happily ever after playlist

i. “First Time” by Lifehouse

Is it just me or are Lifehouse songs seriously appropriate for book soundtracks? Anyhow, the lyrics of this song talks about being scared but taking a chance, of feeling alive and falling in love for the first time. Isla and the Happily Ever after is exactly about those things.

ii. “True” by Ryan Cabrera

I feel like True aptly describes Isla’s feelings for Josh with these lyrics:

Cause I’m afraid to know the answer
Do you want me too?
Cause my heart keeps falling faster
I’ve waited all my life
To cross this line
To the only thing that’s true

iii. “1, 2, 3, 4” by Plain White T’s

One of my favourite parts in the book was Isla and Josh’s ‘I love yous’ to each other because when they say it, it feels so true for them. They really love each other that much.

iv. “Kiss Me” by Ed Sheeran

When Josh and Isla kiss… *fans self*!!! With the sexy guitars and vocals plus the ‘This feels like falling in love’ lyrics- Kiss Me feels perfect for all of the couple’s intimate moments together, when they fall even deeper for each other.

v. “Enchanted” by Taylor Swift

This is the theme song of Josh and Isla’s first date:

This night is sparkling, don’t you let it go
I’m wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I’ll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you

vi. “All About Us” by He Is We

Everytime Isla and Josh are together in the book, I feel like every moment is “all about us” for them, you know? They’re so caught up in each other, just so in love. *heart melts*

vii. “Happily Ever After” by He Is We

The song title says it all! Even better, the lyrics talk about giving happy endings a shot and I feel like that describes how Isla and Josh fight for their love and their happily ever after in the book. And also, this particular lines go well with Isla’s story:

About a boy and a girl, trying to take on the world one kiss at a time…
Oh, happily ever after, wouldn’t you know, wouldn’t you know
Oh, skip to the ending, who’d like to know, I’d like to know
Author of the moment, can you tell me, do I end up, do I end up happy?

viii. “Things I’ll Never Say” by Avril Lavigne

As we all know Isla has the biggest crush on Josh from the very start. Things I’ll Never Say conveys the feelings of being nervous and shy around that person and it’s so accurate for Isla during the early parts of the book!

ix. “Flaws” by Bastille

One of my favorite lines in the book is one that Josh wrote in a letter to Isla: “I hope you still like me after you’ve seen the ugly parts.” Flaws is about that- our flaws and ugly parts. This certain verse feels incredibly right for Isla and Josh and how they deal with their own imperfections and faults:

All of your flaws and all of my flaws,
When they have been exhumed
We’ll see that we need them to be who we are

x. “Risk It All” by The Vamps

Aside from the romance, Isla is also about learning to take a risk- especially for a love that’s worth it. While Isla is very hesitant about taking risks at first, Josh, with his great love for her, would risk just about anything and everything. I fell even more in love with him because he was always laying his heart down the line for Isla.

xi. “You Got Me” by Colbie Caillat

Whenever I listen to this song, I feel so giddy and twitterpated and that’s exactly how I felt reading Isla and the Happily Ever After! The lyrics ‘It’s everything that I’ve been dreaming of’ is perfect for how Isla feels about Josh falling in love with her. This song is basically everything she feels whenever she’s with him!

I think I felt my heart skip a beat
I’m standing here and I can hardly breathe- you got me
You got me.
The way you take my hand is just so sweet
And that crooked smile of yours it knocks me off my feet
Oh, I just can’t get enough
How much do I need to fill me up
It feels so good it must be love

xii. “Angels” by The XX

While this one is a little mellow, like the previous one, I feel like this song is about falling so deeply in love with this person who is so beautiful. For me, the lyrics just capture the way Josh and Isla are with each other.

xiii. “Breathe” by Taylor Swift

I feel like this song expresses this line in the book so well: “Spaces.. Breaks… to contemplate things… to figure out what’s important.”

And we know it’s never simple, never easy
Never a clean break, no one here to save me
You’re the only thing I know like the back of my hand,
And I can’t breathe without you, but I have to

xiv. “Drops of Jupiter” by Train

I imagine Josh thinking this line:

Did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?

xv. “Your Song” by Kate Walsh

The vocals of this song is seriously lovely. Aside from that, these lyrics feel so right for Isla, who pined over Josh for awhile. I imagine her thinking this about him:

I’m stuck on a boy who fills me with joy…
And he doesn’t know just how far I would go
Just to kiss him,
He doesn’t know how I pine

I hope y’all liked this playlist! It’s mushy and a little heart melting and that’s exactly how Isla was for me! Btw, do check out my review for Isla and the Happily Ever After over at Bookbed!

  1. Hurray for Isla finally being here! I was really lucky actually to have found a copy at my bookstore the other day when I was there looking for a gift so I have it now and I’m planning on reading it! I’m equal parts excited and nervous. I just KNOW it’s going to be magical and I want to hold off on experiencing that magic so I can savour the moment for as long as possible. So yeah, I haven’t read it yet (I’m still thinking maybe I SHOULD do a binge read of the series) but I do love your playlist – Taylor Swift! Lifehouse! Ed Sheeran! Bastille! I’m sure I’ll love it more though when I do finally read the book so I’m bookmarking this for the future because I’m sure I’ll need a soundtrack to listen to when I’m drowning in Isla & Josh feels ;)

  2. HOLY. MOLY. Hazel, I am so in love with the playlist you’ve created for Isla! I think your song choices (and the reasons you picked them) are spot on. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that you included a lot of my favorite songs/artists. Just listening to this is making me giddy, and exciting me all over again for my Isla reread!
